CHRISTINA UPDATE BY KAREN KAREM -- THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2008 09:24 AM

CHRISTINA'S PORT IS OUT!! She is doing great and we are just waiting for them to let us go home. She got a great report from Dr. Bergsegal yesterday with all perfect reports! Her white count is now normal and she has only very mild anemia. Her bone marrow is obviously very healthy and has responded very well and recovering! I thought it would take longer than this considering how low she was only 13 days ago. Thank God for youth and their strength!

I'm sure you can imagine how relieved and excited we all are. We are so happy that she is done and can enjoy normal life! I have told her the only things she is responsible for are having fun and growing hair! I think she can handle that after all of this.

Last night Kevin and I had a special dinner with Christina after her visit with Dr. Bergsegal. We talked about everything that has happened since her diagnosis and with so many horrible and scary things that have happened that there were so many good things that have come out of this. One major thing that we all agreed on that has been a very good outcome is that we realize what wonderful people we are surrounded by. Our friends, family, church, Northside Methodist Preschool and Lovett have been incredible. We are so thankful for all of you! We also have spent some very special times with Christina that I would never want to give up! It's weird, but she feels the same way. Our faith in God has also been strengthened by all of this, and all of you have helped with that!

Our next checkup is in 3 months with Dr. Bergsegal. She will get a chest X-ray after that visit. He feels this is sensitive enough to pick up on any changes.

Until then, just look for Christina. She will be the normal kid having fun!
